Saying no to plastic straws is easy

glass-strawHave you ever considered plastic straws and their impact on the environment? In the USA, they go through 500 million plastic straws daily.

Did you know that Australians go through 6.9 billion plastic bags a year, with 10 billion being used worldwide? Add to that the plastic water bottles used (2.5 million every hour in the US alone) and any other plastic container you can think of, that’s a whole lot of plastic. Plastic takes up 1000 years to break down and every single piece leaves its mark on the earth.

While we are becoming more and more conscious of cutting back the use of plastic bags and plastic bottles, where are we at with the removal of the use of plastic straws?

By now most of you are probably aware of the options we have by way of reusable straws – paper, glass and stainless steel. While paper straws are made to look cool they can be bleached, coloured and have all sorts of chemicals used during production. They look great and are eco friendly but possibly not so good for regular personal use.

Here at Shop Naturally we stock Glass Dharma[1] glass straws and stainless steel straws[2] which are both fantastic options for personal use.
