The next book I’m reading cover to cover is The Healthy Skin Diet by Karen Fisher. Karen has a Health Science Degree and Nutrition Diploma (that one’s my own wish list after my Health Coach course). This book is a guide to getting beautiful skin in just 8 weeks. Your skin renews itself every 8 weeks. If you have a pimple on your face and in 3 months, have one in exactly the same spot, it’s not the same pimple, it’s just the same underlying causes. We all know everyone has different skin and different dietary needs, but this book is not about the latest miracle products to rub on your face, it’s about natural skin care, from the inside.
Just for a moment, lets look at a bigger picture, each day, your body turns over 6 billion cells. Yes, 6 billion, every day. In a 12 month period, all the cells & tissue in the body will be new. Given the right conditions, the human body has the remarkable ability to heal itself in many instances, so we’ll be learning over the next few weeks how to alter your diet for fabulous skin.
I’m not a fan of the word ‘diet’ as it’s thrown around in the weight loss arena. For me, a diet is just the way you eat. It’s not some part time ‘miracle’ to get you in to a pair of skinny jeans, it’s a permanent lifestyle, and many weight loss diets can play havic with the condition of your skin.
At it’s core, The Healthy Skin Diet is an anti-inflammatory eating program designed to treat eczema. It’s also helpful for many other conditions not limited to psoriasis, rosacea, dandruff, acne, and things ‘un-skin related’ like headaches, body odour, flatulence and more.
The diet is also designed to help with your liver health. For those who don’t know much about the liver, it works in 2 phases, phase 1 & 2. I personally have had issues with phase 2 of my liver, so I can speak with some experience on the subject. To break it down really simply, phase 1 of the liver breaks down food in to chemicals & hormones and then they go through a little passage way in to phase 2 where they’re filtered through in to safe particles to go in to the bloodstream. At phase one, many compounds are toxic, and if the phase 1 to 2 gateway isn’t working, they’ll leak straight in to your bloodstream and cause havoc. Having a balance between phase 1 & phase 2 of your liver is really important.
In the book there are 8 guidelines for healthy skin. As I read through each chapter, I’ll give a run down on what these guidelines are. For those interested in following the program, I highly recommend you buying a copy of the book. These articles are a mere teaser.
We then have specialised programs for many skin conditions including acne, cellulite, dandruff, cradle cap, eczema & dermatitis, children’s clear skin, psoriasis and rosacea plus some other fabulous information. I look forward to sharing more with you as I read the book.
