Personal care product manufacturers, Unilever, have announced that they will PHASE OUT the use of plastic micro beads in their exfoliant products after environmental groups got in their ear about these plastics getting in to the oceans and waterways. These micro beads are small enough to slip through waste treatment facilities and end up in public waterways, then inside our marine life. The phase out is expected to be completed by 2015. Read more HERE[2].

This one was a real eye opener for me. I had no idea that commercial skin care[3] products used micro beads. I always assumed that the exfoliant ingredients were plant or mineral based. When the natural skin care[4] and organic skin care[5] brands can put seeds & salt in to products, why can’t the rest of them? For a natural body scrub[6], I actually prefer the process of using an exfoliating glove like the one that comes with Eco Tan[7], or the use of a dry body brush. There’s nothing to wash in to our waterways other than some dead skin cells.

For the face, choose an organic or natural face scrub[8], we have a good selection in store.
